Burns Bog is the largest undeveloped urban wilderness in North America. It was officially designated as an Ecological Conservancy Area in 2005 because of the many benefits that it offers to both animals and people. Peatlands, like Burns Bog, cover only 3% of the earth, but trap 10 times more carbon than tropical rain forests. When carbon is released into our atmosphere, it contributes to global climate change. Nicknamed “the lungs of the lower mainland,” Burns Bog keeps our air clean.
